Most of my life I have had problems with constipation, bloating and gas.

I have tried a high-fiber diet includinglarge amounts of oatmeal, apples, vegetables, tons of water, etc but nothing seemed to work.

I have had great results, however,  from a company called diverticulitisinfo.com. I ordered (one of ) their diverticulitus kits and faithfully follow the regimen daily.

It took about four days to start seeing results. It s hard to believe that for the  first time in years my digestion and elimination have returned to normal.

I feel so much better!

Diverticulosis
is just the name for having the sacks (Diverticuli) in your bowel. It happens as a result of weakening in the wall of the bowel and 'pooches' out. Many feel the consequences of our modern world (processed foods, stress, antibiotics, etc.) to be a cause for these pouches to occur.
There is no need for treatment here just care taken that it does not progress into Diverticulitis. Prevention is the key with the right diet, lots of water and high fiber, exercise and prebiotic as well as probiotics for colon health. (See 'The importance of Fiber',' Importance of Water' and 'The Healthy Bowel Kit').

Diverticulitis occurs when these small sacks or pouches (Divertculi) become inflamed and infected in the intestinal wall. Some feel this happens from the pressure that is built up in the colon from constipation or that the narrowing of the opening to the diverticula which then causes the fecal matter to get trapped and to build up bacteria and becoming infected.

How diverticula become inflamed/infected isn't totally understood. Some feel that constipation causes increased pressure in the colon and leads to a breakdown in portions of the wall of the colon and causes diverticulum. When these get fecal matter trapped in them bacteria builds and itbecomes infected. Others think that there can be an obstruction in the opening of the diverticulum which restricts the blood supply to the area and leads to the inflamation.

When this occurs you may need to be on a low fiber (low residue) or even a liquid diet for a short while as you allow for the bowel to rest and the infection to be treated. If the infection is severe antibiotics may be required before natural treatment can start. Once the infection/inflammation improves you need to be aggressive with fiber, diet, pre and probiotics, water and exercise to prevent a reoccurrence.  This is where alternative, natural treatment wuth herbs (botanicals), homeopathic remedies and other holistic methods can really be effective!

What are the symptoms of Diverticulitis?

Symptoms may include:

Left sided abdominal pain
Bloating

Pain before bowel movement
Fever
Bleeding with stool
Chills
Nausea
Vomiting
Small, pellet like stools
Cramping

It is very understandable how frightening and painful Diverticulitis and other bowel disorders can be and why many feel uncomfortable discussing their issue with others. Symptoms may be mild with only tenderness felt in the left lower abdomen. Many have bloating, discomfort, and transient pain before a bowel movement or passing gas. When it becomes extreme there may be severe tenderness or sudden, intense pain and/or fever. Sometimes, bleeding may occur due to a ruptured blood vessel in the diverticuli. In rare cases, peritonitis can develop from bacteria leaking into the abdomen. Not uncommon to have small, pellet like stools and some see small (sometimes large) amounts of blood in the stools. Abdominal tenderness, nausea, vomiting may accompany the constipation or diarrhea. Others suffer from chills and cramping as well. The severity of symptoms depends on the extent of the infection and complications.
